Yoga Etiquette
OUR YOGA SCHOOL ETIQUETTE
- The door opens 30 minutes before each class. First time students should arrive 20 min in advance. Please be on time as the door is locked once class begins
- All students are required to fill their registration form in its entirety including email and phone number and sign the wavier
- Please remove your shoes before entering the school and leave them on the rack in the hall way
- Only take your mat, towel and water bottle and nothing else (no mobile phone)
- Refrain from bringing any other liquid in to the room other than PLAIN CLEAR WATER. Thanks for staying away from red drinks! And, no glass please.
- If you enter the room before class, please always lie with feet facing away from the front mirror in the yoga room.
- Be courteous to all your neighbours beside and behind you with placement of your mat, water and where you stand or lay down. Make sure you not blocking anyone
- Noble Silence! There is a NO TALKING policy at all times in the hot room before, during and after class please!
- As a beginner choose a spot at the back of the room. The front row is strictly for experienced students
- Take care of yourself in the room. If you need a break. Take it! Sit down, have a rest and join in when you are ready. Refrain from moving around OR WALKING OUT! Stay still and allow others to continue in their focused yoga practice
- Respect the teacher, the yoga, other students and the tradition
- Think positive & have Fun!
- Stay in the room for the entire class (90 min). Leaving and re-entering causes the body temperature to fluctuate. Stay in the class to keep the body temperature steady and acclimatize
- Practice normal breathing. Keep your mouth closed and breathe normally and quietly in and out of your nose
- Stick with the sequence at all times. Refrain from doing your own postures. If unable to do the posture sit out still and join in when you can
- Stay aware in class. Move together. Listen and follow the instructions to get maximum benefit from the posture and keep group energy strong
- Practice stillness in between postures
- Do not use the bars or the walls for the support
- Refrain from wiping. The sweat will keep coming back right away. Learn to accept it. Sweat will actually help you keep cool and be less irritating when a film builds on your skin. It’s just something that we are not used to at first
- Try your best not to drink water when others are in a posture (please wait for the water breaks)
- After class drink plenty of water
- It is highly recommended that you replenish your electrolytes. We sell Coconut water and Nuun electrolyte tablet at the school. They are perfect for restoring electrolytes lost through sweat and re-hydrating the body. It is nature’s best sports drink
- Leave the room only after the teacher – This is a gesture of respect.
- When leave the room do it quietly and respect your fellow yogis and their meditation time
- Hired mats need to be sprayed and wiped outside the room and be hanged on the ballet bar in the room
- Power shower please. Shower time is restricted to 3 min
- Place dirty towels in the bin in the change rooms
- Be environment friendly and use the school resources mindfully
- The school will be shut half hour after the end of each class. Please respect the teachers time and leave within half hour after the class
- Forgot your yoga items? Be sure to come back within 24 hours to collect.
- Yoga is meant to be practiced daily. The more often you come, the better you will feel!
