Bikram Yoga

Bikram HOT Yoga is a series of 26 postures (asanas) and two breathing exercises (pranayamas), performed in a heated room at approx. 40′ C.

Suitable for all ages and levels of ability, each posture stretches and strengthens specific muscles, ligaments and joints needed for the next posture.

The Bikram method stimulates the organs, glands and nerves, moving fresh oxygenated blood to 100% of the body – restoring all systems to a healthy working order. Bikram HOT Yoga is not a new phenomenon or the latest fad.

It was created in the 1970’s by Bikram Choudry, a yogi from India who realised that the ways of the western world were having detrimental effects on our bodies, our overall health and well being.

As a result, Bikram designed a 90 minute program that EVERY BODY could participate in, no matter the level of experience, or current state of health.

To this day, the sequence remains unaltered and is still taught daily to millions of people the way Bikram intended. Often imitated, but never truly replicated, the basis of this class is to use a specific set of traditional yoga postures (asanas) to help prevent diseases related to obesity and stress, help heal injuries and limit the effects of ageing.

In addition, the series of postures combine skills of concentration, patience, determination and self control, which lead to increased mental clarity and reduce stress.

As Bikram once said, “Yoga is the only exercise in the world you can do at any age. There is always some posture that will improve your health, mind or soul. It’s never too late, you are never too sick, never too poor, to start from scratch and do yoga”.
